Empowering Our Community Together at the Fresno Center Community Garden
Nestled in the heart of Sanger, California, The Fresno Center’s Community Garden is more than a place to grow food—it’s a flourishing sanctuary where wellness and community come together. Spanning ten acres, this vibrant garden offers elders and local residents a space to cultivate not only fresh produce, but also lasting connections and a deep sense of belonging.
In October 2023, the garden came alive with its “Farm to Table” event, proudly sponsored by Wells Fargo. Guests experienced an immersive celebration that showcased sustainable farming practices, guided tours, and a shared feast honoring the community’s agricultural traditions.
A therapeutic space for our clients, the garden supports growth through nutritious food and opportunities to learn coping skills for stress and anxiety. Supported by our staff at the Living Well Center, clients participate as farmers. Funding has been established by the California Department of Behavioral Health and the California Reducing Disparities Project, alongside recent funding from CalViva. Moving forward, we will be hosting more Farm to Table and harvest experiences.
More than a source of nourishment, the garden stands as a living symbol of resilience and community care. It reflects The Fresno Center’s unwavering commitment to mental health, understanding, and empowerment. Each harvest serves as a powerful reminder: when a community grows together, it thrives together.
