Telling the Hmong American Story is an oral history project that preserves and shares the stories of Hmong Americans. Through professionally produced video interviews, community elders, veterans, leaders, educators, farmers, entrepreneurs, artists, and other trailblazers share their personal experiences and the journeys that have shaped the Hmong community.

These interviews tell the story of the Hmong people—from life in Laos and the Secret War to building new lives in the United States. They highlight stories of resilience, sacrifice, culture, leadership, and the many contributions Hmong Americans have made to their communities and to society.

This project is part of the Hmong History and Cultural Studies Model Curriculum (HHCSMC), a partnership between The Fresno Center and the Orange County Office of Education, funded by the State of California. Created in response to California Assembly Bill 167 and Senate Bill 369, the curriculum is a free educational resource that helps K–12 educators teach about Hmong history, culture, and contributions.

By sharing these firsthand stories, Telling the Hmong American Story helps students, educators, researchers, and community members learn directly from the people who lived this history. It ensures that the voices, experiences, and traditions of the Hmong community are preserved for future generations.
