Leading Through Service at The Fresno Center’s
Food Distribution Efforts
August 27, 2025
Fresno, CA — Some leaders talk about service in the community—others roll up their sleeves and help carry the boxes. At this week’s food distribution event, The Fresno Center witnessed leadership in action—service rooted in experience, compassion, and strength.
Among those serving alongside staff and volunteers was Pao Yang, President & CEO of The Fresno Center, whose presence underscored the organization’s mission of leading with both words and actions. For Mr. Yang, this work is not symbolic—it is deeply personal.
Born in Laos during the Secret War, Mr. Yang and his family fled to a Thai refugee camp before resettling in the United States in 1979, when he was just six years old. His journey included adapting to life in Wichita, Kansas, and later building roots in Fresno. As a first-time father at 17, he worked multiple jobs while pursuing higher education, eventually earning a B.S. in Electronic Engineering Technology and later a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
That personal journey through adversity fuels his commitment today. Under Mr. Yang’s leadership, The Fresno Center has grown to serve thousands of families each month, offering culturally responsive programs across mental health, immigration services, education, workforce development, and more—supported by more than 120 staff and 20 active programs.
Beyond the organization’s growth, Mr. Yang is widely respected for his humility and dedication. He serves on the City of Fresno Immigrant Affairs Committee and has been recognized as a USCIS Citizenship Ambassador, where he provides guidance to support immigrant naturalization pathways.
His participation at the food distribution was a powerful reminder that true leadership is demonstrated through service.
Thank You, Pao and All Who Serve
The Fresno Center extends its gratitude to Mr. Yang, our staff, volunteers, community leaders, and partners for their continued commitment to serving Fresno families. Together, we are not only addressing immediate needs but also building stronger, healthier, and more resilient communities.
