Stimulating Creativity Community Mural What Gives Me Hope
October 2, 2026
September brings an important focus to Suicide Prevention Awareness, highlighting the essential role that hope plays in mental health recovery. To honor this theme, the Holistic Wellness Program operated by The Fresno Center hosted a creative session with Angie and Jorge, inviting clients to collaborate on a community mural centered around the question, "What gives me hope?"
Participants shared deeply moving and heartfelt responses, reflecting on gratefulness, gratitude, and resilience. The activity provided a supportive space for individuals to build connection and reflect on staying hopeful through life’s challenges.
The Symbolism and Power of Hope
The semicolon (;) has become a universal symbol of hope, survival, and the choice to keep going when facing mental health struggles, depression, or suicidal ideation. Hope itself is a quiet choice to believe that change is possible, often discovered in small, ordinary moments when everything else feels heavy.
Hope lives in everyday moments, such as:
The dawning of a new day, offering a fresh reset and a reminder that darkness passes
Acts of human kindness, from a neighbor checking in to strangers helping one another
The resilience of nature, watching growth unfold steadily even in difficult conditions
The enduring truth that hard seasons and pain do not last forever
If you were asked "What gives you hope?", what would your answer be? Take a moment today to notice one small thing that brings you comfort or ease.
